Aidan's Amazing Journey

Dear Ally,

To be entirely honest there is no way I can really thank you for what you have done for my own life.  Before my mother made the life-changing discovery of “Ally’s Boxing Bootcamp” and ultimately persuaded me to try a boxing session, the person you know as Aidan was, quite frankly, very different.  I was just heading into the seventh grade, yet I was terrified, lacked self-confidence, and, most of all, lacked the amazing physical and mental health I now have acquired.  Truth be told, I have no clear idea in my mind what road I would have headed down if fate did not lead me to you and your bootcamp.

I have written this letter because I want to thank you.  You have taught me so much over the course of maybe a year or so, and it has changed my life for the better.  You helped me unlock my true potential for myself – as a boxer and as a young man – potentials I was originally blind to.  Sports and any kind of real physical activity were almost entirely meaningless to me.  Now, even just the slightest amount of time practicing my kicks and punches or something as little as jumping jacks could not be more important to me.  The more I do it, the better I feel and the greater my potential.  I am not ashamed to say boxing/ kickboxing training was one of the key factors that helped me achieve great reputation, Honors grades and a positive attitude.  Add that to all of the other benefits that anyone could get from boxing.  It becomes absolutely irrefutable to an incoming freshman.

Believe it or not, but learning self-defense and how to fight like a true boxer has made me less aggressive.  My friends and I get along profoundly, my mother does not hear me whine at all anymore, too!  Judging by all that, you have not only made my life better and more pleasant, but also have improved the lives of people you may never meet.  Less and less do I try to escape problems in everyday life, and more and more, I stand up, do the right thing and get things done (especially schoolwork) with diligence and quality.  Endurance and effort, patience and positivity, focus and full potential.  All of these things you have helped bring to me and still do every single Saturday, which is now dubbed officially as “my favorite day of the week” because that is the day I get to relive my stresses, work out, and most of all, BOX!

There is a decoration my mother hung in our kitchen that was put right when we had moved from our old home to the apartment we now reside in.  It says: “Put your heart into it! ‘Well Done is Better Than Well Said’!” echoing a quote by the great Benjamin Franklin.  Whenever I see that decoration, it reminds me of all the times you believe in me to always do better and be stronger.  Thank you a thousand fold for everything.  You have truly changed my life.

                Sincerely Yours,
                Aidan Flaherty 7/22/12
